Our Story

Our story begins on a cold, snowy day in December when two people fell in love. We were married the following fall and a darling little daughter was born soon after. Sweet Emma was only three in 2006, when little brother, Eli was born, and was still only three when we would go through our biggest challenge in life - his passing. As parents, we struggled for answers and reasons that would never come, but our faith grew stronger, and that little girl gave us reason to get up, dust off, and keep on living. She was our rock.

Shortly after, we moved from the land of glitter and gold to Oklahoma, learning that having family around was a far richer life than the riches of the California shore could offer. Emma was 5 in 2008, when baby Evan was born, and he was the apple of her eye, and of ours. A blessing that we now were so obvious to. We had passed our test, and did it well.

But God would once again test us in 2011 when my husband of 9 years was diagnosed with two types of cancer, one of which is stem cell based, so it's virtually "incurable", but here we are, a year later and going strong. Our faith is stronger now than ever, and life to us is lived for the moment, by the heart, and often in prayers of thankgiving.

I started this blog for the kids - the "Einsteins" - called so beacuse their initials are EMC, and the two of them make it EMC"squared". When they are grown and off to begin this journey called life, I will have these blog passages printed and bound into a book that they will be able to read on quiet rainy days to their own children, our grandchildren, and someday maybe even passed on to generations beyond.
So, pour yourself a nice cup of tea and snuggle on in for a taste of lives, from the front porch looking in. Oh, and don't forget to leave us comments or messages - they mean so much to us, and I'd love for them to be read years and years from now...

Thanks for blogging...I don't have much time to blog or follow bloggers right now, but do you have a Facebook page? Btw, don't worry about the "OCD tendencies"... It's a good thing! (Well, most of the time ;)

  5. The purpose of my blog is the same...not nearly as intriguing as yours. You are definitely one awesome mom to your kids. And I have had my blogs printed year after year starting since 2009, with the birth of our first child. How *AWESOME* is it that we can do this and pass this on for generations. God bless you and your family.

  8. Bless you for making the choice to share your story with us. In your moving on through life's challenges you are helping many of us move on as well.

As a side note.... your trunk ideas have made an unmanageable daily grind seem manageable. Something that may seem small but in all honesty, has made me pull over and beak down crying, as it - combined with other recent events, was just too much.
    THANK YOU!!!

  15. What a small world. Via pinterest I read your post about your uber organized trunk and realized that you came to Indianapolis for your dear husband's surgery. I work for IU Health and was mere steps from you when you were there. My mom has been through chemo three separate times for mantle cell lymphoma which is also never "cured". Your blog is beautifully written, I guess that's why it's 2:30am and I'm still reading.... I love that you do this for your children to look back on someday. I never really thought of a blog as a "diary" of sorts that way, duh! I just wanted to say thanks for sharing your wonderful (and not so wonderful) adventures. I pray that you never "need" to return to Indy, but if you do please look me up.

  16. Just stumbled on here from some other dollar store craft blog or another. I was pricked by your chemo comment in your mini van organize blog, so I decided to read your story. Yeah, you guys have definitely earned some street cred. I too lost a son several years ago, although every story is unique, but I totally get it.

God bless and good luck on the cancer. My dad had it twice (39 years ago -- had no treatment, was diagnosed terminal and is still here today, and 2000 when he had surgery and nothing else) and is still as feisty as ever! You can do it!

  19. Heidi, I was wondering how you secured the tops of those shoe organizers over the seats? Mine are not looking as nice as yours. Would love a tip....P.S. I think you and your family offer so much inspiration for the rest of us. God bless you on this journey. (0: Emily.

  21. I saw your mommy van trunk on Pinterest, so I read your story. Truth: I cried immediately. I can't imagine the hardships you have faced and are facing. Making the move out of Cali was a great choice (we live (and are from) the OC and are waiting for the day to get out of this rat race...lol) Anyway, I wanted you to know that we are praying for your husband and the 3 of you. May God bless you and keep you safe. Keep the faith, you're an inspiration! Big hugs. xoxo
